Welcome to a snapshot of the artist
Graham Brown has been a professional artist for more than 10 years. His work has appeared in a string of newspapers and magazines in Australia, most recently in Rolling Stone, Black & White Magazine, the (Sydney) Magazine, Men’s Style and The Sun-Herald.
You can see his work at www.handdrawnmedia.com.
This is his second venture into the t-shirt business. He designed the hugely successful Viva la Kevolution t-shirt which he sold with Bondi poet Adam Gibson. That t-shirt is also available on this site or go to www.plastikzen.com to order.
Although he paints in several genres, he is best known for his vibrant and expressionistic portraiture. His recent subjects have included John Pilger, Kofi Annan, Don King, and the late Dr Victor Chang.
His portrait of UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, which appeared on the cover of The Sydney Morning Herald's Good Weekend , was recently awarded runner-up in the Create Awards.
Graham, who has painted everyone from Richard Carlton to the late Patrick White, said he tries to go beyond painting just the physical features and capture the energy of the subject.
He recently exhibited at the Gaffa Gallery in Surry Hills with his series Animals. He runs his own business, Hand Drawn Media, which provides private commissions along with artwork to magazines, newspapers, and book publishers.
He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at COFA (UNSW) and studied at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney. He is also working on a children’s book about a runaway chimp called Charles.
